Austin “AJ” Paradise, a beloved 12-year-old seventh-grade student at Four Oaks Middle School in Four Oaks, North Carolina, passed away on Sunday, October 25, 2026, following a tragic all-terrain vehicle (ATV) accident. His sudden death has left his family, classmates, teachers, friends, and the wider Johnston County community heartbroken. Though his life was far too short, Austin made a lasting impression on those around him through his cheerful personality and the happiness he brought to others.

Known affectionately as AJ by his family and friends, Austin was remembered as a happy, energetic boy who loved making people laugh. Those who knew him described a young person whose presence brought joy and whose friendships meant so much to him. His passing has been especially painful for the children who shared school days, activities, and countless everyday moments with him, leaving them struggling to understand the loss of someone so young.

Austin had a deep love for baseball and had recently completed a successful season in Smithfield. The sport gave him opportunities to spend time with friends and enjoy being part of a team. He also loved the outdoors, animals, and creating funny TikTok videos. His playful spirit and enthusiasm for the things he enjoyed were among the qualities that made him special to the people closest to him.

Following the tragedy, family members, friends, classmates, and neighbours gathered for a candlelight vigil in Four Oaks on Monday evening, October 26, to honour Austin’s memory and support his grieving family. Those present shared prayers, songs, and personal memories, while his classmates spoke about how deeply they would miss him. The gathering reflected the care and compassion of a community coming together to comfort a family facing an unimaginable loss. The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office also expressed condolences, describing the incident as a heartbreaking, unintentional tragedy.

As Austin’s family prepares to say goodbye, the love surrounding him remains evident in the memories shared by friends and the support offered by the community. His loss is a painful reminder of how precious childhood is and how deeply one young life can touch so many others. Austin “AJ” Paradise will be remembered for his love of baseball, his playful nature, and the happiness he brought to those around him. May his family, friends, and classmates find strength in one another and comfort in the memories they will carry with them.
